Force International are excited to be involved in a project led by UN Women to develop a global violence against women and girls (VAWG) investigations handbook for police. Our director Jane Townsley has been engaged as a consultant police advisor by UNWomen HQ New York for this project.

The need for such a handbook was identified as a result of evaluations of implementation of the ‘Essential Services Package for Women and Girls Subject to Violence’ in an number of pilot countries. Of the 5 modules that make up the Essential Services Package (ESP), Module 3, Justice and Policing, is proving the hardest to implement in the field. Work on this project began in April 2019 and is currently in the research/mapping stage, part of which included a two day ‘Expert Group Meeting’ held at Un Women HQ in New York. This two day workshop was moderated by Jane Townsley and her colleague on the project, the lead consultant Mirko Fernandez, and consisted of plenary and group discussions amongst leading global experts in tackling Violence Against Women and Girls.
