Since 2016, Force International has collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Egypt.  The project aimed to build the capacity of police and human rights officers from the Ministry of Interior to respond effectively to crimes of violence against women (VAW). Force International worked with colleagues from Amuka to develop and deliver a 5-day training for operational practitioners and investigators, delivering 5 courses throughout 2017, with a total of 81 officers participating in the training.

We also designed a 5-day training of trainers course delivered, in 2018 to 15 participants identified from the previous courses. This ensured sustainability of the training, the trainers will now go on to deliver the training on ‘Effective Responses to VAW’ to police and human rights officers across Egypt, supported by UNODC.

The training we developed was bespoke and designed to take into account the cultural context of Egypt and some of the specific crimes they deal with. It was interactive allowing the participants to explore the issues through discussion and by completing exercises and re-enforced with case studies from the trainers’ own experience of investigating such crimes.
