Jane Townsley, our director, is currently supporting UN Women Bangladesh to build the capacity of the Bangladesh Police Women’s Network (BPWN). The network was launched in 2008, and Jane, who was at that time 1st Vice President of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) attended its formal launch in Dhaka. Since 2008 the BPWN has achieved many positive outcomes, in 2015 they became an affiliate of the IAWP.

UN Women want to support the further development of the network, building capacity of its members, and to establish gender responsive policing at national, regional and local levels. In particular enabling BPWN to support women officers working within and around the Rohingya refugee camps and in the host community of Cox’s Bazar. A workshop was run by Jane Townsley in Dhaka to identify current challenges and potential solutions to women in Bangladesh Police, and women and girls in communities. A further workshop is being planned and will take place later in the year.
