Through our partnership with Amuka, as part of our joint Gender Agenda International initiative, we have developed a ‘Meeting of Minds’ concept whereby we host discussions between international experts and practitioners in the field of gender equality by bringing them together to consider topics from different perspectives.

Our approach is to have an interactive, informal discussion sharing experiences, identifying challenges and potential solutions, we also envisage it being a networking platform by which like-minded individuals can connect across international borders to achieve positive outcomes.

We held our first ‘Meeting of Minds’ on the 6th August 2020, in recognition of National Women’s Day in South Africa. The format of this first event was an invited panel of speakers to share their experiences with the audience who were then invited to join the discussion.

Feedback from this inaugural session led us to adapt the format slightly resulting in us hosting a series of 4 sessions, all in recognition of the International Day of Peace (21st September 2020). Each of the four sessions explored what Peace looks like and what role women and girls can play in preventing violence from four different perspectives: Women in communities; Young People; Women in Uniformed Services and finally the role of Academia. We heard from one speaker in each session before opening up to the audience for a wider discussion, each session lasting one hour in total with the recordings circulated on social media.
