On 18th september CEO Jane Townsley delivered a presentation to the International Women in Law Enforcement Conference that took place in Cairns, Australia and attended by delegates from across the globe. Her presentation title was, ‘The benefits of Gender Responsive Policing: a presentation of research findings’ which was well attended. During the presentation, she explained the aims, objectives and methodology of her research then presented the key findings which led to a number of conclusions: strong argument for embedding gender within security sector reform; the positive benefits of gender responsive initiatives; gender responsive policing increases the trust & confidence of communities; establishing & sustaining women police associations provide women with a voice and help move the gender agenda forward.
The audience engaged in further discussion by way of questions and follow-up meetings took place with interested parties in the days following her presentation. Particular interest was shown by delegates from the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and India and dialogue still continues on how Force International can support delivery of the gender agenda where it is most needed.
